WordPress 3.2 is now available to the world, both as an update in your dashboard and a download on WordPress.org. Version 3.2 is all about making WordPress faster and lighter. The first thing you’ll notice when you log in to this new version, is a re-vamped dashboard design that tightens the typography, design, and code behind the admin section.

If you’re starting a new blog, you’ll also appreciate the new, fully HTML5, Twenty Eleven theme, fulfilling the new WordPress team plan to replace the default theme every year now. When you start writing your first post in the new redesigned post editor, you can use the full-screen button in the editing toolbar to enter a new distraction-free writing or Zen Mode. This is a great feature! All of the widgets, menus, buttons, and interface elements fade away to allow you to compose and edit your thoughts in a completely clean environment conducive to writing, but when your mouse strays to the top of the screen your most-used shortcuts are right there where you need them.

The latest stable release of WordPress version 3.1.2 is now available for download from WordPress.org. This version is a security release for all previous WordPress versions. It addresses a vulnerability that allowed Contributor-level users to improperly publish posts.

You can download WordPress 3.1.2 from here or update automatically from within your admin dashboard.

WordPress 3.1.1 is now available for download. This is mainly a security release that fixes some issues with WordPress 3.1. The fixes include;

  • Security hardening to media uploads
  • Performance improvements
  • Fixes for IIS6 support
  • Fixes for taxonomy and PATHINFO (/index.php/) permalinks

WordPress 3.1.1 also addresses three security issues discovered by WordPress developers. The first hardens CSRF prevention in the media uploader. The second avoids a PHP crash in certain environments when handling devilishly devised links in comments, and the third addresses an XSS flaw.

As this is a security related fix it is recommended to update to 3.1.1 promptly. You can download WordPress 3.1.1 manually or update automatically from within the admin Dashboard – Updates menu in your sites admin area.

The long-awaited WordPress 3.1 is now available for download. This version features a very nice Admin Bar so that you’re never more than one click away from the most-used dashboard pages, including ‘Add Post/Page’ links and even a small stats graph. This is a great new feature that’s sure to save time when blogging. Remember, you have to be logged-in to see the Admin Bar on your website. The Admin Bar will not be viewable by anyone else!

This release also features a redesigned linking workflow which makes it easy to link to your existing posts and pages. Also, the writing interface has been streamlined, it now hides many of the seldom used panels by default to create a simpler and less cluttered writing experience for newer bloggers.

WordPress 3.1 is available for download here, or you can update it from within your WordPress admin dashboard.

WordPress gets another security update after the recent update to 3.0.3. The latest version is 3.0.4 and is available from the update page in your admin dashboard or via the WordPress download page.

The WordPress team has stressed this is a very important update to apply to your sites as soon as possible because it fixes a core security bug in their HTML sanitation library, called KSES.

There has been quite a number of updates to WordPress recently and I wonder if many people are getting concerned about the number of these updates. Having so many bug-fixes so close together can be a real pain to update, especially if you have multiple sites.

I hope the upcoming release of WordPress 3.1 isn’t plauged with multiple updates like this.

WordPress 3.0.3

WordPress 3.0.3 is now available and is a security update for all previous WordPress versions.

This release fixes an issue with the remote publishing interface, which under certain circumstances allowed Author and Contributor level users to improperly edit, publish or delete posts. This issue only affect sites that have “remote publishing” enabled. Remote publishing is disabled by default so this update is only required if you have it enabled. However, it is no harm to upgrade your WordPress installation to this latest version as the Askimet spam blocker plugin also gets an update to version 2.5!

You can download WordPress 3.0.3 or update automatically from within your admin panel by visiting the Dashboard/Updates section in your website’s admin area.
