WordPress 2.2.2 has now been released to everybody via the WordPress download page. This latest 2.2.2 release, once again, is mainly security related and therefore it is a recommended update.
If you are going to update your blog there should not be any issues with this release as it only includes security and minor bug-fixes that should not cause any plugin or theme compatibility issues. So, if you have the few minutes it takes to update your blog, this would be well worth doing.

The developers of WordPress have just released a new WordPress Plugin Directory where you can download all the plugins that have been submitted to the development plugin site wp-plugins.org, all from one place!

These tags are very revealing as it clearly illustrates the popularity of Skype and of the social networking aspect of WordPress blogging. I highly recommend that you check out the WordPress Plugin Directory.
A new version of WordPress has been released within the last couple of hours. It seems that the previous 2.1.1 version was hacked within the past 3-4 days, and because of that, the entire 2.1.1 version has been deemed dangerous. It’s highly recommended that anyone running 2.1.1, or if you know someone who is, should upgrade to the latest WordPress 2.1.2 version, as soon as possible.
The latest WordPress 2.1.2 Version is now available for download on the official WordPress download page.

I just came across the news on Dan Masters blog that the final version of WordPress 2.1 is due to be released today. I have been testing out the latest Release Canidate (RC1) version from boren.nu’s blog recently and I have to say I’m very pleased with it.
The new admin area looks similar, visually, as the default WordPress 2.0 style but it has been upgraded in several ways. On the whole the new changes make this new version feel a lot more modern and more zen-like, which is good.
There are also some extra features built-in to this new 2.1 version, such as the ability to create static front pages which really helps WordPress to be used as a fully fledged CMS more easily. This new WordPress 2.1 version is set to definitely be the best version of WordPress, so far. I’m looking forward to the official release of WordPress 2.1, today hopefully.

Live is a nice WordPress plugin by HeadZoo.com that lets you watch your website activity and various website stats in real time. You can watch as people are visiting your pages, leaving comments and grabbing your RSS feeds.
The Live plugin site activity display is similar to that of Digg Spy. Each page hit, RSS hit, and comment slowly scrolls in the admin area in a smooth motion. It also includes a hit graph that dynamically shows you how much traffic your site is getting over a period of time.
You can download the latest 0.4.1 version of the Live Plugin now from the download page.
It has just been announced on the WordPress Blog

WordPress 2.0.6 is the latest stable release in the 2.0 line which the WordPress team are committed to maintaining for several more years to come. It looks like it will probably be the last release before the long awaited WordPress 2.1 version is out, which will be the first major feature release in quite a while.

I just came across two very useful resources for WordPress Theme and Plugin customization. I found these on the excellent 480x.com blog which features a special Theme and Plugin Cheat Sheet that are very useful when you want to dive in and manually configure a theme or plugin.
These two cheat sheets are in PNG format and are designed to operate as a desktop wallpaper if anyone would like to do it that way. Actually, I decided to print these out onto glossy paper, and even laminate them, as they are a great reference for tweaking WordPress to suit your own needs.
The WordPress Theme Cheat Sheet (above) is for WordPress theme developers or theme customization and is 1280—1024 pixels and PNG format. It features a list of all the Template Tags (eg wptitle(), the_content() ) , Include Tags, BlogInfo function and a basic example of the entire WordPress Loop.
The WordPress Plugin Cheat Sheet (right) is also 1280—1024 pixels, PNG format and features a list of all the add_actions() and add_filters() functions which form the basis of all plugins. This cheat sheet is useful for Plugin customization or even creating a Plugin from scratch.
Tip: Print the two cheat sheets onto two pages of glossy paper, then place together with the glossy side up at the front and when you turn it around the other one is also glossy side up, then laminate the two sheets together.
This makes a very useful reference for tweaking WordPress without having to go and search through the entire WordPress documentation.
