A new theme called Anaconda has recently been released and it is perhaps the most complete theme design that I have come across in a while.

Anaconda is a flexible, 3 column WordPress theme which is designed entirely using CSS. The middle column and left sidebar are flexible and adjusts to browser size. The theme is also SEO optimized! It seems my search for a good CSS based, 3 column WordPress theme is finally over!

Configuration

The Anaconda Theme will work, without any configuration, right out of the box. However, it has been designed to be extensively customizable for those who need it. Customizations can be easily done using the Anaconda Options control panel in the Presentation theme menu. The theme has built-in support for inline and sidebar asides. It also supports Ajax commenting, Live search, fixed width layout if required.

Conclusion & Download

This has to be one of the best themes I have seen this year and it is a likely contender to replace the current theme of this blog!

Newsportal is a nice, fast-loading 3 Column WordPress theme designed by Kaushal Sheth which is ideal for a business or news type blog.

The theme has a fully fluid width structure to suit all screen resolutions. The big benefit of this theme, I believe, is that it is really fast-loading. There is no fancy graphic headers or unnecessary code to slow down its performance and would be ideal for text-heavy website, such as a news or article site. It would make a great business blog too.

By default the theme does not use a tagline, but that can be easily changed by editing the theme with the theme editor if required, see below. Another feature is that the Newsportal theme is fully Widget compatible.

Quick Theme Tweaks

As can be seen from the picture above, the page navigation menu bar is centered just below the main site title. I personally do not like the navigation to be centered like this, but it is very easy to change. To have the navigation menu on the left, it is simply a matter of changing one word in the stylesheet (style.css). In the Menu styles, #navlist section simply change the line text-align:center; to text-align:left; (or text-align:right;).

Also, to add a tagline to the theme it is simply a matter of adding the line < h2>< ?php bloginfo('description');?>< /h2> just below the main H1 title tag in the header.php theme file (ignore spaces when adding to theme). An example of the tweaks can be seen below.

Internet Broadcast is a great looking corporate type WordPress theme by GFXEdit.com which is based on an excellent CSS template by Luka Cvrk. This is a really nice, quick loading theme and features a couple of nice built-in effects such as featuring a recent articles list / archives list just above the main content and also three separate highlight areas which can be individually customized from within the theme options panel.

While the fonts used in this theme are quite small, they are crisp and easy to read which is ideal for an article site or news site which would naturally feature a lot of text. The theme has been tested on Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.5+ & Opera 9 and works just fine.

Tech-o-Crunch is a new three column theme for WordPress and is a very clean looking and Zen-like look and feel. The theme is designed by Omer Cakarca. It features nice, easy on the eye, text fonts and large headings for easy readability. An entire column is dedicated to Adsense ads by default, however this is optionable if so required.

Tech-o-Crunch is widget-ready for easy sidebar customization and also included in the download is the PSD file (PhotoShop) for easy editing of the graphic and logo on the header.

Overall, the Tech-o-Crunch theme is very modern looking, has a great Zen-like feel and also looks very Web 2.0. Definitely a theme for today’s blogger.

WPThemes.info has released a lovely new WordPress theme called GreenFlower. The creator Sadish has done it again by producing an excellent theme with many cool features built into it.

Some of the built-in features include a Theme Options page and several Page Templates which are great for setting up quick pages to your blog. As always with Sadish’s themes it is Sidebar Widget ready for easy customization of the sidebar.

A beautiful new 3 column WordPress theme called Subtle has been released and it has a lot of inbuilt features. It was designed for blogs that have multiple authors, with each author having their own archive and information page. However, it will work well on just about any blog. The header and footer are great and overall this theme is really professional looking.

The theme features Fam Fam Fam’s excellent Silk Icons set to great effect. Also, there is built-in FeedBurner support and the theme fully supports WordPress Widgets which makes customization very easy. This theme is built by Glued Ideas and it is one of the better WordPress templates out there at the moment. For a complete list of features check out here.

Transparentia is a new 2 column, widget friendly wordpress theme by Kaushal Sheth. It is a light and simple theme which is similar to the default Kubrick theme that is usally installed in WordPress by default.

J David Macor said recently on his blog, ‘you can’t design a bad website with the color blue’. OK, that might not be all true, but it is food for thought when designing a blog theme.

I like this theme, the fonts used are smaller than usual but they are easily readable. It is nicely coded and if you are used to tweaking a themes code, you will like this theme. It does look similar to the default WordPress theme, Kubrick, however the sidebar and overall look and feel of Transparentia takes it a step beyond Kubrick, I believe. It’s also widget-ready, which is great.

Aquafluid is a great new two-column, widget-ready WordPress 2.0 theme. What I really like about this theme is that it features a simple, but very eye-pleasing, design that is ideal for adapting to use as your own theme.

Aquafluid features include;

Michael Pollock has just released a cool new theme called Bosco 1.0 + Widgets. It is a 2 column WordPress theme which supports sidebar widgets. It has a classy, clean look and the text fonts used are clear and sharp. The header is smaller than standard for this type of theme but suits the design nicely.

Images a right-aligned by default and feature a nice CSS border around them. Installation of this theme is easy. Unzip the file and upload to your wp-content/themes directory in your WordPress installation. To use the widgets function of the theme, you will need to download and install the Widgets plugin here. Once installed, just activate the Widgets plugin from your admin screen.

Fleur is a 2 column WordPress theme which supports sidebar widgets. It makes use of subtle colors and has a clean layout structure. The theme is made by Kaushal Sheth and the XHTML layout was developed by Denise.

I really like this theme. It has got a Zen feeling about it. The header graphic looks great and the header dimensions of 760 x 100 pixels is ideal and really suits the overall theme.

The colors are well done also, with pastel shades and nice fonts used. This theme is widget ready and doesn’t require any other plugins to get to work straight away. Overall this is a beautiful theme and quite worthy to be used on any type of blog or website.
